Professor Aaron Lawson holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from University of Ghana Medical School and a PhD in Anatomy from University of Leicester, England.
Among his numerous appointments, he served as House Officer at both the Department of Surgery, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the Department of Medicine, 37 Military Hospital. He was a lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School’s Department of Anatomy for 8 years and was later promoted to Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor, and then Head of the Department of Anatomy. Under his leadership as Department Head, the University of Ghana Medical Student Association adjudged the Department of Anatomy the Best Basic Science Department for 3 consecutive years 2002, 2003 & 2004. He also served as Dean of University of Ghana Medical School from November 2005 to July 2007.
He has received numerous awards, including;
• Best Teacher Award for Basic Sciences by University of Ghana Medical Students Association: 5 consecutive years 2001-2005. Also in 2007.
• 2004 Best Teacher Award for the Sciences, University of Ghana
• 2013 University of Ghana Distinguished Award for Meritorious Service
Prof. Lawson is a member of Ghana Medical Association, Anatomical Society of West Africa, and Ghana Christian Medical Doctors Fellowship and has co-authored several research papers and abstracts. He is currently a Professor of Anatomy on contract and Coordinator of the University of Ghana Teaching Hospital Project.
He is married to Mrs. Stella Koshie Lawson and has three children.
