Undergraduate Admissions

Qualification

Qualifications acceptable for undergraduate admissions include the following:

  • Senior Secondary School Certificates (SSSCE/WASSSCE)
  • Baccalaureate (French)
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • GCE (Cambridge) – ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels
  • GCSE & ‘A’ Levels
  • American High School – Grade 12 examinations
  • Other external qualifications which have equivalences to the WASSSCE/SSSCE and the GCE (A Levels). All admissions will be to Level 100.

All Applicants must take note that the process for admission to the Accra College of Medicine is very transparent.  Applicants should therefore beware of any persons who may approach them on the pretext of assisting them gain admission for a fee.

English Requirement

In addition to the entry requirements, applicants whose first language is not English must show evidence of proficiency in English. This requirement can be satisfied by providing official documentation of scores achieved for one of the following English language proficiency examinations.

i. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of at least 85 or above (internet version).

ii. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7.0 or better.

iii. CAMBRIDGE FCE (First Certificate in English) grade of 160 and above; equivalent to “B” (B2 level) or higher – Cambridge Advanced (CAE) or Proficiency (CPE) preferred.

iv. TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) score of at least 600.

Students must have their official scores sent directly to the Admissions Office of ACM. Tests must be less than two years old from the date of enrolment.

Entry Requirements

2023/2024 Entry Requirements – UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS FOR THE 2023/2024 ACADEMIC YEAR. 

Prospective students should meet the minimum requirements for admission to a first degree in science in tertiary institutions in Ghana as determined by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC); that is, aggregate 24 or better in 6 subjects in the WASSCE (A1-C6) and SSSCE (A-D) examinations. They should have obtained credit passes or better in the core subjects: English, Mathematics, Integrated Science and three elective subjects of Chemistry and any two of Biology, Physics or Elective Mathematics or their equivalents. A credit or better (C6 in WASSCE or D in SSSCE) in Social Studies/Life Skills is also required.

An applicant for admission to the Accra College of Medicine MBChB programme must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0 with an SAT score of 1200 or better, or an ACT score of at least 24 in each section.

Prospective students must have obtained good passes (Grade D or better) in Chemistry and any two of Physics, Biology or Mathematics. In addition, candidates must have at least credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and General Science plus Additional Science or the individual science subjects of, Chemistry and any two of Physics, Mathematics or Biology. Students must also have a credit pass in an Arts subject.

An applicant for admission to the MBChB programme in the Accra College of Medicine must have at least credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in 6 subjects as listed below:

Core Subjects: Credit passes in English, Core Mathematics and a Science subject such as Agriculture, General Science or Health Science

Electives Subjects: Credit passes in Chemistry and two from Physics, Biology and Further Mathematics

Short-listed applicants will have to pass an interview and/or entrance examination.

Applicants must have the IB Diploma (DP) Certificate and at least Grade 5 in High Level (HL) Chemistry and in any two (2) of the following HL and SL Subjects: Physics, Biology or Mathematics.

In addition, for those who have taken the:

i. IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), applicants must have the MYP Certificate and at least Grade 4 in English, Extended Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and a language foreign to the applicant’s own.

ii. IGCSE or GCE (Cambridge) ‘O’ levels, applicants must have at least Grade C in English Language, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry and a language foreign to the applicant’s own.

Applicants must have obtained at least a grade of 10 in the General Baccalauréat (Science).
