General Schedule
International medical students will work alongside ACM medical students in their assigned rotations. Residents will work alongside physician mentors in their assigned specialties. Work schedule will be provided upon arrival.

This global health experience is a one of its kind opportunity to learn medicine in a resource-limited setting that promotes academic rigor, cultural humility, and anti-racism.
Upon completion of this rotation each student/resident will be able to
- Practice medicine safely and humbly in a resource-limited setting.
- Appreciate the impact of culture on health and healthcare.
- Collaborate with a diverse and multidisciplinary team of experts.
- Learn about the diagnosis and management of tropical disease.
Medical students or residents from anywhere in the world can apply.
Application must be completed and submitted no less than 4 months prior to requested rotation time. If applicant’s school/residency program have documents (.e.g memos of understanding or institutional agreements, etc) that must be completed by ACM, please submit these documents with the application.
Medical Students
There is a $500 administrative fee. $200 of this fee is a non-refundable processing fee that is due when the application is submitted. The $300 balance is due by the beginning of the rotation. Fees can be paid directly into the ACM account.
Residents
There is a $1000 administrative fee. $300 of this fee is a non-refundable processing fee that is due when the application is submitted. The $700 balance is due by the beginning of the rotation. Fees can be paid directly into the ACM account.

A one-month elective in Ghana will cost at least $5000 for Medical Students and $5500 for Residents. This estimate includes housing, airfare, and administrative fees. This cost will vary based on factors like the type of airfare, housing, meals, cultural experiences etc. purchased by the learner.
Housing is arranged by ACM at the learner’s expense and must be paid for upon arrival.
Learners are challenged to know their “why” and have personal learning goals for this experience. Goals should be submitted a month before rotation begins.
a. Learners will evaluated by the local preceptor. Learners should seek mid-rotation feedback from supervisors.
b. If a learners school/residency programme has a additional evaluation form it must be submitted with the application.
Learners will complete a weekly reflection exercise.
Visiting residents and students will have optional cultural immersion activities that could include the following:
- A day with a Ghanaian family.
- Tour of a castles, Jamestown or other sites that reflect Ghanaian history.
- Cultural Immersion Experience
ACM will arrange for these additional experiences (upon request) at the learner’s expense.
Once an application is accepted, learner will be out in touch with our international rotation director for orientation. This will include information on evaluation, cultural experiences, learning opportunities and more.
